Physical Therapy in Homer Glen & New Lenox, IL

Podiatry and physical therapy have long been used together to help treat conditions of the foot and ankle. Physical therapy treatment often forms a crucial part of ongoing treatment plans and has proven to be an effective treatment during recovery from podiatric surgery.

It’s very common to use a course of physical therapy to help treat conditions such as plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, corns, bunions, calluses, and bursitis.

Physical therapy is able to alleviate the swelling and pain caused by many conditions, it can be used to restore motion to the foot and ankle, and it can rebuild strength in the muscles. In some instances, physical therapy techniques can lower the risk of joints becoming stiff and help to support the correct alignment of structures in the foot.

There are many different types of physical therapy that can be called upon to treat different conditions, such as diathermy, which involves using an electric current to heat tissues. Further common physical therapy treatments include ultrasound, hot packs, paraffin baths, massage, and electrical stimulation.

Amniotic Fluid Injection Treatments

Amniotic fluid injections are natural, steroid-free alternatives to surgery. A group of Amniotic stem cells are injected near damage tissues and can heal the area by regenerating area tissue damage, to healthy tissue.

It can serve as the solution for joint, ligament, and tendon damage – reducing inflammation, pain, and encouraging regenerative repair.

The Amniotic Fluid injection of healthy Stem Cells stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms and will also continue to stimulate healthy cell production in the area. Amniotic fluid injections are stem-cell-free, noninvasive and virtually pain-free.

AmnioFix Treatments

AmnioFix Injectable is processed from an allograft of human tissue from the placenta lining (chorionic/amniotic layers), known as a dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane (dHACM) allograft. The product acts as a kind of magnet that signals your stem cells to heal damaged tissues, like muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

AmnioFix is an innovative treatment that’s used to treat two common conditions:

→ Achilles Tendinitis – inflammation of the Achilles tendon

Plantar Fasciitis – an inflammation of the tissues on the bottom of the foot.

AmnioFix Therapy – Recovery Time

Recovery after AmnioFix treatment is fairly quick, with many patients experiencing just 2-3 days of soreness around the treated area.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave

For suffers of plantar fasciitis, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) can be a very effective treatment option: it has a 70% success rate in clinical studies. This treatment option is noninvasive, quick, and safe, with only minimal recovery time. There’s no requirement to stay overnight after ESWT, but patients won’t be able to drive themselves home after the procedure.

It’s thought that the effectiveness of the treatment lies in inducing microtrauma to the damaged tissue, which in turn causes the body to start healing. As a response to the microtrauma, blood flow to the area will increase and a higher quantity of nutrients will be directed towards the injury, stimulating repair and decreasing pain.

The microtrauma is created by directing shock waves – either high-energy or low-energy – at the source of pain, using a similar device to the one used to treat kidney stones. The treatment is safe for most people, with the exception of pregnant women, individuals who take Coumadin or other medications that affect blood clotting, and people with pacemakers, vascular foot disease, and neurological foot disease.

Alcoholic Neuropathy Treatments in SW Chicago

Alcoholic neuropathy treatment is for sufferers of alcoholic peripheral neuropathy, a condition that causes permanent nerve damage to the feet, resulting in a loss of sensation. The cause of the condition is the toxicity of the ethanol in alcoholic beverages, and it’s developed due to an extended consumption of alcohol.

There are other types of peripheral neuropathy that are also very harmful to health, including diabetic peripheral neuropathy and peripheral neuropathy from exposure to heavy metals, pesticides, and other toxins. Alcoholic peripheral neuropathy has a similar impact on nerves as diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and patients diagnosed with the condition must take identical precautions.

There are different options for treating alcoholic peripheral neuropathy, including injecting vitamin B-12, using topical ointments, and taking oral medication (it’s important not to take medications without consulting your physician beforehand). Further treatments for alcoholic peripheral neuropathy include galvanic stimulation, where an electric current is used to stimulate muscles and nerves, and magnet therapy, where magnets are typically worn to help with pain management (this treatment is not suitable for people using insulin pumps or with pacemakers).
